"I am especially interested in the study of form-context relationships as a means of understanding how any built place derives from a cultural and physical setting. Another interest is in design theory and history with a focus on urban places and buildings as part of a larger fabric of spaces and events."
Professor Gilland is a former Dean of the School of Architecture and Allied Arts. His professional architecture work includes residential work and some consulting on public institutions. He was also involved with educational facility design, and was involved in university campus planning.
Professor Gilland taught a courses in modern Nordic architecture, in addition to design studios.
