"My principal interests lie in producing buildings that are affordable, elegant, and supportive of human activity. I have explored design processes that allow inexperienced users and owner/builders to participate directly while making informed design decisions. I seek professional projects that combine site planning, landscape, building design, and construction in ways that allow long-lasting quality. I am interested in describing architectural forms and details that allow buildings to respond efficiently to the natural elements while also contributing to a regional style.  The quality that I strive for is both aesthetic and functional and enhances the experience of people's lives."

In addition to single family houses, Professor Thallon's firm has designed wineries, other commercial buildings, and several award winning housing developments. Professor Thallon has authored two books on the detailing of light wood frame buildings, Graphic Guide to Frame Construction and Graphic Guide to Interior Details and has co-authored The Owner-Builder and the Code, Fundamentals of Residential Construction, and Graphic Guide to Site Construction.

Professor Thallon teaches courses on building construction, and teaches advanced design studios with a focus on public buildings that display various aspects of environmental responsibility.
