B.A., 1970, Vassar
M.Arch., 1974, California, Berkeley
reg. architect, Oregon (1982)

Professor Young's research and creative work are focused in reconnecting buildings and places, communities and individuals, in three arenas. First, she is involved in research in the spatial structure of small towns and the role of architecture of individual buildings in their repair and development. Secondly, Professor Young has an active practice, designing architectural projects within this theoretical framework including additions to historic houses that respect and enhance their contexts while making indoor and outdoor rooms for contemporary living.

Thirdly, she has worked on numerous educational and health care facilities projects ranging from a major hospital addition in downtown Boston, rural health clinics, buildings for Head Start and rural school systems. These rural facilities, as core institutions of small towns, both repair and define the spatial structure of the towns, while providing settings for essential activities of their inhabitants.

Currently working with Rowell Brokaw Architects, Professor Young is project architect for an Oregon Solutions project in Fossil, Oregon, converting a 1950's high school into a visitors center that will be a gateway to the remarkable geologic and natural features of the John Day and Deschutes River basins.

Professor Young teaches courses in architectural programming, the form of small towns and architectural design studios at beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels.
